A new residential quarter located in Tartu, Estonia. Prefabricated timber-frame facade systems were used as the facade solution for the building complex. Main Part Design OÜ was responsible for the development of the BIM model for the facade system and the development of manufacturing and installation documentation for the facade system, including CNC files in BVN/BVX format for Hundegger cutting machines.
Structural Overview
The reinforced concrete load-bearing structures were designed and calculated by the general contractor. Main Part Design OÜ was engaged in the development of the facade system’s structural design, including selecting the connections used to transfer wind loads to the main load-bearing frame.
Modeling, Calculation & Coordination Tools 📐
Modeling: Modeling was performed in Tekla Structures
Calculations: Calculations were made using Dlubal RFEM 6, Finnwood
Coordination: Coordination was managed via Trimble Connect, which facilitated collaboration between project participants and helped meet deadlines set by both the manufacturer and the client
In-house Tools Utilized: To optimize modeling and documentation processes, the following self-developed plugins were used (available on Tekla Warehouse): MPD EDIT, MPD Timber Frame, Glulam Connections, and MPD QR Code
